What is a Theory test?

When learning to drive passing your test isn't just about being a good driver. The test is designed to help you become a more conscientious driver. To pass the theory test you will need to know what road signs mean and be able to anticipate the dangers before they happen.

The test consist of two separate parts. A set of multiple-choice questions and a hazard perception test. You are required to pass both parts before you can take your practical test.

Preparing for the theory test

To prepare for the theory test you can take a practice test. You can also take a practice test online by visiting the direct.gov.uk website. Further information is also available here

Booking your test

When booking your test you will need the following:

  • A debit or credit card for payments
  • Your provisional driving licence
  • Details of any special requirements

The cost of the Theory test is £31.

Attending your test

When attending your test you will be required to produce the following:

  • Proof of identity
  • Both parts of your provisional driving licence (the plastic and counter parts)
